Form Value
expansion retard to retard attributive R2R

Definitions

  1. (informal, playful, derogatory, business-slang, tech-slang) — *R*etard *to* *R*etard: a business model where both sides of the transaction are incompetent, unserious, credulous, or terminally online. The seller has found product-market fit by locating a buyer with exactly the same broken incentives and calling the resulting exchange an economy.
    • the token marketplace is R2R: idiots selling yield to other idiots
    • that founder community achieved perfect R2R product-market fit
    • no revenue outside the group chat, just a closed-loop R2R economy
Positioned against: R2B (sense 1), R2C (sense 1) (axis: customer-type-in-parody-business-model) — R2R puts an R on both ends of the transaction; R2B grants the buyer institutional status, while R2C grants the buyer ordinary consumer status.

Etymology

R
Initial of retard, appearing on both sides because the insult is applied equally to seller and buyer.
2
Internet-era rebus for to, inherited from labels such as B2B, B2C, and C2C.

A parodic business-model initialism built on the same X2Y template as B2B and C2C. Unlike R2B and R2C, it denies either side the straight role: the entire market is endogenous to the R population.

Usage

R2R is the closed-loop case: the seller and customer are both targets of the joke. Contrast R2B and R2C, which reserve the R for the supplier and classify the customer by market segment.
