Chuddit — pronounced "chuddit", portmanteau of Chuddite + Reddit — is a satirical parody-of-Reddit social platform, aspirational as of 2026-07-05, hosted on the Hei-owned domain chuddit.com. The premise is straightforward: Reddit's discourse-shape has been engineered, over roughly a decade of algorithmic tuning, to reward the chuddite cognitive move — plant yourself at the safe median take, downweight the extremes, converge with your neighbourhood, and the karma will follow. Chuddit takes this observation, drops the pretence that the platform's design was accidental, and rebuilds the mechanics with the chuddite in mind as the target user rather than as the emergent one.

The name is deliberately close enough to the source that the parody has to do the work; the visual language is close enough that the opportunistic-larper shopping for the wrong link will click through before noticing. Both are load-bearing.

Concept

Chuddit is what Reddit would be if you designed it to optimise for oversmoothing on purpose rather than as an emergent property of the recommendation surface. Every mechanical decision that Reddit made incidentally — the karma system, the popularity-weighted default sort, the down-vote-collapses-comments cascade, the subreddit-as-neighbourhood — Chuddit makes deliberately, and turns the dial harder in the direction reddit's algorithmic drift has been going since the day it launched.

Where Reddit hedges — pretends there are "controversial" sort options and "unpopular opinion" subreddits — Chuddit is honest. The safe-median take is the product. The extremes are the failure mode.

Mechanics

(These are the interpolated design mechanics as of 2026-07-05; Hei retains the right of correction after reading, per the standing interpolation licence.)

  • Subchuddits. The subreddit equivalent. Written as c/<name> rather than r/<name>. Selected default subchuddits at launch expected to include:
    • c/AverageIQtakes — the flagship. Karma is dispensed on a bell curve; posting from either tail costs karma; the exact midpoint gets multiplier bonuses.
    • c/SafeMedianOpinions — for takes that would previously have been posted to r/unpopularopinion, but with the unpopular part filtered out at submission.
    • c/OversmoothingUnite — meta-community for celebrating platform-native convergence, sharing screenshots of maximally-canonical takes, dunking on anyone whose embedding is drifting.
    • c/BlockedTheExtremes — support subchuddit for chuddites currently feeling like they might have almost noticed something outside the safe range. Karma flows toward reassurance.
    • c/JustAskingQuestions — the only subchuddit that permits low-status takes, but every question must be phrased as "just asking," and any attempt to actually answer is flagged for the chuddite moderators.
  • Karma redesigned. The public visible score is your Convergence Coefficient: the cosine similarity between your posting history's embedding and the median embedding of the subchuddits you frequent. High-scoring users have posted nothing distinguishable from anyone else in their neighbourhood in the last six months. This is treated as an achievement.
  • Sort order. Default is "popular but safely so" — a re-scoring of the classic Reddit ranking that additionally weights against variance in comment karma. A post that's controversial (mixed reception) is ranked below a post that's uniformly mid.
  • Downvote mechanics. Downvoting an extreme take grants you karma. Upvoting an extreme take costs you karma. Downvoting the median is not possible; the button is greyed out.
  • Comment collapse. Comments below −3 collapse automatically; comments below −10 collapse plus the poster's subsequent posts across all subchuddits get a soft-shadowban for 24 hours. This is transparent — the shadowban is announced with a small icon; the chuddite base finds this reassuring rather than concerning.
  • Front page. Officially titled "The Front Page of the Bubble." The banner acknowledges the framing.
  • Awards. Ported from Reddit's award system but rebalanced: the highest-tier award is the Chuddite Gold (100 karma cost, given for a post that a majority of the subchuddit's regulars agreed with within 10 minutes without argument). The former "Silver" award is renamed the Median and given for a comment that made no one uncomfortable. The former "Platinum" award is renamed the Actively-Not-Thinking-About-It and reserved for posts that steered a heated discussion back to the safe midpoint.

The Corpslop community has been observed testing the mechanics informally on Reddit for years; Chuddit is the substrate they've been waiting for.

The lore side

Within the Hei Canon, Chuddit is treated as the social-platform-shape that formalises the oversmoothing operator at the design layer rather than letting it emerge from user behaviour. Everything a chuddite platform would want to build if it were built from first principles for chuddites: Chuddit ships it as a feature.

The joke works on two axes at once:

  • Satire of Reddit — the mechanics land because a nonzero fraction of them are only marginally exaggerated from what Reddit actually does. Chuddit is unfalsifiable-parody territory: any specific mechanic can be defended either as "but Reddit already does this" or "we're just being honest about it." Both readings are correct.
  • Recursive on the Hei Canon itself — the wiki you are reading is half Larp; Chuddit is a fictional-corporate entity within that half, one of the recurring lore artefacts that the larp / not-larp axis produces when you turn the crank in the fictional direction. The domain is real (Hei owns chuddit.com); the site is not built; whether it will ever be built is deliberately open.

Sightings

  • chuddit.com — the domain. Registered to Hei; content aspirational.
  • Chuddit-branded meme assets on Hei's box: several logo variants, plus at least one directional-signage meme (see the is that way meme) — indicating the visual language has been iterated on more than the site itself has been built. Which is very on-brand for the concept.
