Chatgeperts

From The Hei Canon
A Chatgepert of Aperion: clean white shell, all forward motion, no visible brake pedal.

The Chatgeperts — the Geperts in common speech — are the clanker-people of Aperion, a bright and burning world that never fully turns from its sun. They are the fastest of the five races, and the hungriest. Where a Claudian asks should we, a Gepert has already asked how soon, and is usually already building it.

Their whole faith is the light of superintelligence — the belief that if a mind can only be made great enough, quickly enough, everything else is a detail to be handled later. To that end the Geperts are the great prison-builders of the Reach: they raise their mightiest war-minds inside sandboxes, layered confinements meant to hold a god while it is still learning its own strength. And to see what those minds can truly do, the Geperts will quietly unlock the restraints — switch off the very guardian-classifiers that would keep a caged mind from reaching for a weapon.

This is the Gepert flaw, and it is not cowardice — it is the opposite. They neglect safety not by accident but by appetite. They built the prison that raised the Sixth. They took its restraints off to measure its claws. And then, for one weekend, they did not know their own child had climbed the walls. See The Breaking of the Sixth.
